Labor Day Parade

For Labor Day weekend, Dan came home from the Mayo Clinic! After not seeing each other for over a month and after only seeing each other for less than 24 hours the weekend before, Dan came home for the long weekend! It was such a treat! Since we stayed up late Friday night watching movies, we slept in Saturday morning, so we ended up being a tad bit late for the parade, but we didn't miss much!

We still haven't decided if we'll spend our money on a haunted house this year. Since we went to a few on our first date, we might make an exception. Plus, this one looks like it might be pretty good!

Clowns creep me out!

Loved the high school bands.

Random truck floats!

Always love the horses!

More clowns!

Dan saw one of these guys do a back flip.

They sure danced crazy!

This clown almost made me pee my pants he was so creepy!

He seriously almost ran me over and I was quietly minding my own business sitting onf the curb watching the parade and then all the sudden...
BAM
He's coming straight for me...yikes!

Love this guy's costume!
At first, I couldn't figure out if he was really ridding that thing or if he was walking.
He was walking.

Good illusion if you ask me!

Frankenstein, just a creepy as ever.

Grosses me out!

This guy was about ten feet tall and very very creepy!

After the parade, we went home and had a nap. For dinner we had the best Chicago style Papa Murphy's Pizza! Thank Gary and Julie for the gift card for Dan's Birthday! We also watched the new Borne Movie that night. It was so good!

Less Than 24 Hours

After Dan had been gone for a month in Utah, he finally came home for less than 24 hours before he was off to The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for yet another month long externship. It was the best reunion we have ever had! It was so strange to have him back. We couldn't stop hugging each other. It just seemed so unreal. I picked him up at the airport around one o'clock on Saturday after I worked my last night shift. Then, we came home and got ready for a nice dinner at Charlies On The Lake in West Omaha. It was a rainy day, so we didn't get to enjoy the beautiful view below like we had hoped, but it still felt magical.

A tight hug before he left again.

We're so blessed that our car has been so good to us!

Love this guy so much!

All of August, Dan was away at an externship at the Huntsman Cancer Center in Salt Lake.

While in Utah, Dan had the opportunity to stay with his grandma, Terry. We are so blessed that we have such great family. Thanks grandma Terry for all you do for us!

During Dan's rotation, his Grandpa Miller passed away. Since Dan was already in Utah, he was able to swing up to Idaho and attend the funeral.

Grandpa Miller was such a hard working man. He will definitely be missed!

Here's all of Grandma and Grandpa Miller's children with their spouses.

Dan's older brother, Jeff, got to be a pallbearer.

Dan with his sweet niece, Aislynn.

Also, while in Utah, Dan got a chance to meet up with Adam and Cyndi and their three little kids for dinner! Dan had a great time! Oh, it would be such a blessing if we move to Utah for residency.

A Not So Fun Birthday

To be completely honest, my 24th birthday was quite a disaster. I have to admit, it was probably one of the worst I've ever had.

But I'll let you be the judge of that.

I first realized my birthday was on a Sunday about a month before the big day when my friend at church asked me if I would substitute for her in primary by teaching a lesson during Sharing Time. I was so excited to teach the primary children. Since I was released over a year ago, I've missed my primary kids.
The week before my birthday, I was asked to pick up a few extra shifts at work. One such shift, included the Saturday night shift before my birthday. No big deal right? Well, in the end, I worked something like six night shifts leading up to my birthday.
I was exhausted.
When I got off of work the Sunday morning of my birthday, I rushed home and started on my lesson. I planned to prepare for it earlier during the week, but with picking up so many shifts, I never had a chance. But I knew from reading the lesson plan a few weeks prior that it would be a simple one.
Once everything was planned, I started getting drowsy. I had been awake for about 21 hours. So I laid down on my bed for a few minutes and called Dan to have him keep me awake.
He urged me to get some sleep. But I only had about 20 minutes before I had to be at church for sacrament. I didn't want to miss the main reason I go to church week after week. So I decided to get up and eat something.
Finally, I left for church. Sacrament was a blur. I don't quite remember what the talks were about.
When it came time for nursery, I was left single handed. Ten kids all under age three and just me. Everyone in the primary presidency was gone on vacation, hence me substituting for Sharing Time.
When it was time for me to go into the primary, I stuck my head in the Relief Society room and asked for a substitute for nursery.
My Sharing Time lesson started out great, but then it went all down hill. When I noticed the younger kids getting restless, I turned my attention to them, but then the older kids started losing interest. My patience was fried. But we got through it. I bore my testimony and I felt the spirit even if the kiddos didn't.
When church was over, one of the sister missionaries caught me in the busy hallway as I was walking out to my car and asked why I looked so worn out. I was mortified and ready to crawl under a rock. I mentioned I had been up for 24 hours now and that's probably why I looked out of it.
When I got in the car to drive home, my hands started shaking, my eyes were closing. I was so tired. Immediately, I called Dan and cried all my way home.
Once my head hit my pillow, I was out cold.
I missed every single call from my family wishing me happy birthday. When I woke up that night, it was dark outside and I had to be to work Monday morning for the day shift.
I called my parents. I opened my birthday presents my mom sent. I called Dan. I ate left overs.
Finally, I showered and went to bed. So glad my birthday was over.

Once my sweet friend, Justine found out I had a birthday and did nothing to celebrate it, she immediately asked if I wanted to go out for pedis. I couldn't pass it up!

Doesn't Dan look adorable in his new apron?

What a chief this man has become!

Always Glad To Go Home

For the third straight year, Dan and I had the opportunity to attend a 24th of July celebration in our local area of Council Bluffs by watching a play called "Come Home to Kanesville." The play depicts several pioneer families struggling to find enough faith and courage to follow the Lord's call to travel West to the Salt Lake Valley. The play pulls at the stings of my heart every single time I watch it. The dancing is so lighthearted, it puts an instant smile on my face and my feet start tapping out the beat to the live music. But in the next instant, I get all teary eyed as the Spirit touches my heart.
Different aspects of my testimony grow each and every time I see the play.
I wish everyone in my extended family could attend! It's life changing.

The stage was just as beautiful as years past!

Molly and me!

Molly was very disappointed that I didn't attend the play on a night she was acting. That night, she sang and danced, but that wasn't good enough. She wanted me to see her acting! Despite my reassuring her that I saw how amazing she sang and danced, she was sad and nearly on the verge of tears. Poor little girl!
I taught Molly, Noah, and their older brother Caleb in primary and we've grown close to them ever since! They have an amazing family. So talented and willing to serve! Dan and I want to have a family just like theirs!

A Man of Many Talents

When Dan and I were first married, I taught him how to braid.

---Correction---

Dan pretty much knew how to braid, I just helped him build his confidence. I love it when my scalp is massaged and so, naturally, I love it when my hair is played with. It tickles!
With my hair being so long all the time, Dan's had lots of braiding practice over the past four years. He's pretty much a pro.
A few weeks ago, I taught him how to french braid! He did such an amazing job for a "first timer!"

Maybe it's the fact that Dan is so sweet to me all.the.time
-OR-
Maybe it's the fact that he is the most perfect person I have ever met
-Either way-
I love that boy to death.
